English for Business, Economics & Finance aims at developing the students’ ability to recognize, understand, and use professional English in both oral and written formats. This textbook also tends to provide a solid foundation in terminology and language use for those professionals, whose first language is not English, who wish to enhance their knowledge of English in specific fields such as Business, Economics & Finance. A good command of English language and grammar structures is key to a comprehensive mastery of the language.
English for Business, Economics & Finance has not been thought of by authors, and certainly can not be seen by students, as a mere review of English language vocabulary. It combines a review of the standard terminology with the study of sentence and paragraph structure that characterize business and finance English. Students are expected to engage in a process of active learning that will improve their skills in reading, writing, speaking and note taking.
The main objective is to increase students’ professional vocabulary, enhance discussion skills and improve presentation capabilities. Specifically, the textbook focuses on developing the following skills:
- Use English terminology with ease and accuracy.
- Comprehend texts related to their own field of study
- Express ideas clearly and concisely in writing
- Prepare formal letters and filling out necessary applications
- Participate with confidence and fluency in class discussions
